As the Detroit Red Wings gathered for a morning skate today at their practice facility at Little Caesars Arena, they were without their top forward.
Per Red Wings beat writer Helene St. James, captain Dylan Larkin didn't participate in the practice session, but there's been no indication yet as to why; potential possibilities include an illness, injury or needing a maintenance day.
Additionally, Marco Kasper, who missed Saturday's 4-2 win over the Maple Leafs, didn't practice either.
He was during Saturday's game due to an illness and was announced as being unavailable minutes before the opening puck drop.
Dylan Larkin is currently pacing to pass the 30-goal threshold, but has fallen on hard times of late. He's gone 9 games without a goal, having last scored on November 25 against the New York Islanders.
Larkin's value to the Red Wings was never more apparent than last year, when his team failed to win a single game after he was forced from the lineup with an injury in late February.
The 7-game losing skid erased what had been a comfortable lead in the standings form the cutoff point; Detroit eventually missed the playoffs for the 8th consecutive year.
It will be a considerable challenge for the Red Wings if they have to face the Flyers on Wednesday without Larkin (and Kasper, for that matter).
