The Detroit Red Wings have signed free agent Vladimir Tarasenko to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $4.75 million.

Tarasenko cited Patrick Kane as a key factor in his decision to join the Red Wings, just as Kane was influenced by his close friend Alex DeBrincat when he signed with Detroit. During the 2023-24 season, Tarasenko scored 23 goals and added 32 assists in 76 games for the Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers.
He brings a scoring talent that the Red Wings have struggled to draft despite their selection of Michael Brandsegg-Nygård, a promising winger, with the 15th overall pick in the 2024 NHL draft. Brandsegg-Nygård, who recently signed his entry-level contract, will play for Skellefteå AIK of the SHL next season.
Tarasenko expressed excitement about joining a close-knit team and aims to contribute significantly. While DeBrincat will likely remain the top left-winger, Tarasenko's veteran presence and familiarity with Kane will be valuable as the Red Wings integrate him into their lineup.
