How is the injury to Matthew Tkachuk going to affect the Americans (and the Florida Panthers) moving forward?

While the Americans may have beaten Canada 3-1 in last night's game, they've announced bad news on forward Matthew Tkachuk, one of their heart and soul players.
Tkachuk, who was one of three fights in the opening nine seconds of play, is dealing with an injury that could potentially be serious after missing most of the 3rd period.
Head coach Mike Sullivan indicated that he's been evaluated by the team medical staff, but didn't offer much beyond that.
Right now, he's being evaluated by our doctors. That's all I can offer. We'll make decisions that we think is best for Matthew and we think is best for our team. Right now, I don't have a lot of information to go on, so it's hard for me to give you more.

Tkachuk has two goals so far in the 4 Nations Faceoff for the Americans; his potential absence would be a devastating blow.

Brady Tkachuk also fought in the opening seconds of play vs. Canada

Brady Tkachuk, the brother of Matthew, also fought in the opening nine seconds of play in last night's game.
Later on, he said that while it was a rush of energy, they needed to focus on the game after the initial physical battles early on.
«It's obviously an adrenaline rush. But you have to carry that over into each shift now. It's all about playing and doing whatever it takes to win.»
«It's just another game right now. You have to block out all of the noise.»
