Dallas Stars just made a move to cut millions in revenue to Gary Bettman
Beginning in September, fans can watch Dallas Stars games for free on a streaming service, which will cost Gary Bettman millions in revenue.
The Stars will stream all their games on VICTORY+, a new streaming service free for fans in the North Texas area. This move significantly impacts the revenue Bettman expected from pay-per-view services. The Stars have launched this free in-market streaming service for fans in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas through a 7-year deal with A Parent Media Co.
Starting this fall, fans in the Stars' regional territory can download the app and watch for free across all streaming platforms. Bettman will lose out on streaming and television revenue from this large geographical area, causing considerable concern. This initiative might set a precedent for other teams, potentially leading to substantial revenue losses for Bettman and the league if it catches on.
