Leon Drasaitl Hero is a former Red Wing
The Edmonton Oilers are on the last hours of their Stanley Cup Final, an event that has been awaited by fans who have endured years of heartbreak. For stars like Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, this moment represents the culmination of childhood dreams.
In a recent media interaction, Draisaitl shared a lighthearted moment recalling his childhood hockey fantasies, jokingly referencing himself as "Leon in Germany, Cologne." This little quote drew laughter, including from McDavid. However, he then reflected on his true childhood idol, Pavel Datsyuk, highlighting the impact the skilled Russian forward had on him. Datsyuk, renowned for his speed, skill and two Stanley Cup wins with the Detroit Red Wings in 2002 and 2008, left a lasting impression on Draisaitl with his playing style and achievements.
Draisaitl described how, as a child, he would envision himself in imaginary Game 7 scenarios, where he would play out moments looking like those seen in movies. Now, with the Stanley Cup Final upon them, Draisaitl and McDavid are poised to seize their first opportunity at the trophy.
