Marner was spotted working vigorously with other NHL players, sporting white skates instead of the usual black, capturing the attention of The Hockey News' Nick Barden.
While Marner had 85 points in 69 games for the Leafs last season, he struggled in the playoffs, posting just three points in seven games. This was especially problematic as the Leafs were without Auston Matthews and William Nylander for parts of their series against Boston.
Marner appears to be hoping that changing to white skates, similar to those worn by legends Sergei Fedorov and Wayne Gretzky, will help him hit the 100-point mark in the regular season and achieve post-season success. As Marner enters the final year of his six-year deal, there is no imminent resolution regarding a trade or extension, setting up a season filled with rumors and questions for the 27-year-old pending unrestricted free agent.
