Former Flames prospect finds new contract despite conviction
Former Flames draft pick Topi Ronni has found a new contract for next season after being let go by the Flames and Liiga team.
Ronni was convicted and sentenced to 1 year in prison after he was found guilty of assault in 2021. The sentenced has been suspended and Ronni has found a new team in Slovakia for next season.
With the 59th overall pick in the 2022 #NHLDraft, the #Flames select Topi Ronni!
His team released a statement saying that they are aware of the conviction but labeled it as a mistake and said they want to give him a second chance.
"Of course we are aware that Topi made a mistake a few years ago for which he was punished. Our club decided to give him a helping hand and give him a second chance, which we hope he will use and prove his hockey qualities."
