At 37, Talbot sought a team that would provide stability and a good environment for his loved ones, making the Detroit Red Wings an ideal choice. Signed to a two-year contract on July 1, Talbot expressed enthusiasm about his new team in his introductory Zoom call on July 2.
Last season, Talbot played for the Los Angeles Kings, posting a 27-20-6 record, a 2.50 goals-against average, .913 save percentage, and three shutouts. He also represented the Kings at the 2024 NHL All-Star Game, marking his second career All-Star appearance.
Adjusting to a new system is challenging for any goalie, and Talbot plans to arrive in Detroit early to acclimate. He's excited to be near family in the Detroit area, where his wife, Kelly, grew up.
Detroit now has four goalies under contract for the 2024-25 season: Ville Husso, Alex Lyon, Talbot, and newly signed Jack Campbell. With such a competitive crease, Talbot expects a rigorous battle for playing time. Red Wings Executive Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman acknowledged the challenge of managing multiple goaltenders and indicated that decisions will be made as the season progresses.
