The Detroit Red Wings are inserting Christian Fischer back into the lineup for tonight's game against the Panthers in the place of injured forward Tyler Motte.

The Detroit Red Wings won't have forward Tyler Motte after he crashed face-first into the boards in an ugly collision during Tuesday night's 6-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks at Little Caesars Arena.

After debating on whether or not to re-call a forward from the American Hockey League, the Red Wings ultimately decided to re-insert Christian Fischer back into the lineup for tonight's game against the divisional foe Florida Panthers (7:00 PM, ESPN, 97.1 The Ticket).

After this morning's practice in Ft. Lauderdale, Fischer expressed his good feelings about being back in the lineup.

I think it feels good to get back in, I'm just going to play the same way I always have. It's never fun to sit out.

Obviously, you're still part of the team, right? There are 2 or 3 guys on every team who don't play and you never want to be in that position, but you sit there for those games and go on a great win streak. Obviously, there's a bigger picture and a bigger goal as a team than there is individually, so I'm just kind of looking at it like that. I'm being a good teammate and that's all you have to do.

As far as getting in just his 2nd game under new Red Wings coach Todd McLellan, he answered that he's going to let his playing style, which hasn't changed, speak for itself.

I think obviously when you get a new coach mid-season, everyone's in the same boat when it comes to Todd not knowing too much of you. You can show him what you have, so back to the same 1st answer. My game hasn't changed for a long time and I know what I can do, so I'm gonna keep doing it.

Fischer knows that he and the Red Wings are in for a tough gauntlet on this 4-game road trip that begins with facing the Panthers, who won the Stanley Cup last year.

We know what they can do, they're Stanley Cup champions for a good reason. It's obviously a good test for our group, especially when we win those 7 games and then lose one, it will be good to see how we respond.

Fischer has 4 points (1G, 3A) in 31 games played this year; he was re-signed by general manager Steve Yzerman during the summer to a 1-year deal.
