The Detroit Red Wings' goaltending situation for the 2024-25 season is set to be intensely competitive.

The upcoming training camp will be crucial with Ville Husso, Alex Lyon, and Cam Talbot fighting for the top spot. Ville Husso, entering the final year of his contract, faced a challenging season last year due to injuries and inconsistent performance, posting a 3.55 GAA and .892 SV%. Despite showing promise in his first season with the Detroit Red Wings, he struggled to maintain his form.
Alex Lyon, who stepped up significantly last season, will be a key contender. He had a solid performance, posting a 3.05 GAA and .904 SV% with a career-high 43 starts. Alex Lyon's strong showing in the early part of last season propelled the Detroit Red Wings into playoff contention, making him a strong candidate for a larger role.
Cam Talbot, signed to a two-year, $5 million deal, adds experience to the mix. Last season, he posted a 2.50 GAA and .913 SV% with the Los Angeles Kings, benefiting from strong team defence.
Additionally, Jack Campbell will join Grand Rapids with top prospect Sebastian Cossa, potentially shaping Detroit's future goaltending duo. The competition among these netminders will be fierce, with each aiming to secure a significant role.
