Could Detroit Red Wings goalie Sebastian Cossa start his 1st NHL game?
The Detroit Red Wings are in desperate need of a victory, could they be turning to their prize prospect goaltender for his first career start in the NHL?
The Detroit Red Wings are in desperate need to pick up two points tomorrow when they they face another divisional foe, the Buffalo Sabres (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
The Red Wings are as banged up at the goaltender position as any team in the NHL, as both Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon are unavailable due to injury.
Ville Husso, who was called up from the AHL after the injury to Lyon, has started the last handful of games for the Red Wings.
In the meantime, the Red Wings also called up Sebastian Cossa, their highly-touted prospect goaltender they selected in Round 1 of the the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, to back up Husso.
While Husso has mostly played well since his return to the NHL level, he's yet to pick up a win - mostly due to his teammates being unable to provide him with offensive support.
Could the Red Wings turn to Cossa against the Sabres?
Red Wings goaltender Sebastian Cossa is enjoying his first taste of NHL life
It's a different experience for Cossa at the NHL level rather than his work in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
While he would love to pick up playing time, he also understands that Husso is the more experienced figure in net.
Obviously you want to play for sure, but at this point where the team's at right now, points are really important, and Huss has been doing a great job giving this team a chance to win every night.
Just trying to replicate what he does every day.
The intensity of the practice, obviously the skill of the shooters, it's a big jump from the AHL to here and just kind of getting comfortable at that level, pushing my pace and even the size of the guys.
There's bigger boys in here in front of the nets taking screens and a lot better at tips and stuff.
