The current roster of the Detroit Red Wings is considerably different than it was in year's past, a testament to the work of GM Steve Yzerman and what he inherited from maligned former GM Ken Holland.
Two players who were on the Red Wings at one point in their careers have been dealt some particularly brutal news, a pair of names that fan should still be familiar with.
In the first place, former Red Wings goalie Petr Mrazek, currently with the Chicago Blackhawks, was placed on Injured Reserve after getting hurt on Saturday against the Winnipeg Jets.
New Blackhawks coach Anders Sorensen, who was promoted to the role after Chicago parted ways with Luke Richardson, indicated the team's hope that Mrazek will only miss a week of time.
Additionally, former Red Wings forward Givani Smith was placed on waivers by the San Jose Sharks.
At one point in his career, Mrazek seemed as if he were being groomed as the next goaltender of the future in Detroit.
But thanks to an alleged attitude problem, Mrazek was shipped out of town to the Philadelphia Flyers at the 2018 Trade Deadline.
Meanwhile, Smith played sparingly for the Red Wings before being sent to the Florida Panthers in 2022; he later signed with the Sharks for two years and $1.6 million in 2023.
