The Detroit Red Wings are hoping for big thing from prospect forward Nate Danielson, who was the ninth overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
But until he makes his debut with the big club, he's honing his skills in the American Hockey League with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
During last night's game against the Chicago Wolves in the Windy City, Danielson attempted to retrieve a puck that was heading toward the Chicago goal.
Goaltender Yaniv Perets instead raced out to the middle of the slot, colliding with Danielson. But in what was the craziest penalty call of the night, it was Danielson who was whistled for goalie interference.
Take a look below at the footage of the incident and decide for yourself.
No wonder Danielson immediately raised his arms in disbelief and protest.
Understandably, the Red Wings are hoping that the ceiling is high for Danielson, who will eventually be on the team.
Whether it comes around the time where bloated contracts currently on the roster like Andrew Copp and J.T. Compher come off the books remains to be seen.
However, Red Wings fans are right to show excitement over Danielson's potential as a future start player in Detroit.
GM Steve Yzerman, who made Danielson the organization's Round 1 pick, said that there isn't a hard and fast timeline for players like him to make the NHL.
