While Red Wings forward Marco Kasper has been learning the ropes at the NHL level, he won't want to repeat his mistake during last night's 6-3 loss to the Sharks.

The Detroit Red Wings were beaten for the 1st time since December 27 during last night's game at Little Caesars Arena; their 6-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks ended their 7-game winning streak.

Unfortunately for the Red Wings, it was an even mix of sloppy defensive play and poor goaltending that did them in.

The Sharks took the early advantage after Jan Rutta beat goaltender Ville Husso from the top of the slot, a very stoppable puck:

The Sharks then scored a shorthanded goal after William Eklund's no-look backhand pass to Nico Sturm not only went unnoticed, but that he had a fully unobstructed path to the net.

Both Marco Kasper and Erik Gustafsson made next to no effort to try and thwart the scoring chance, which Sturm capitalized on by deking past Husso and making it a 2-0 San Jose lead.

Kasper's effort was especially lacking, as there was no hustle on his part to reach Sturm other than a tepid lifting of his own stick in Sturm's direction:

These are the kinds of plays that will draw the ire of Red Wings coach Todd McLellan, who has introduced a new level of accountability in the Detroit dressing room.

To that end, McLellan later benched defenseman Justin Holl in the 3rd period after a horrific giveaway in front of the net which resulted in San Jose's 5th goal of the game.
