Bad news for the Detroit Red Wings before 2nd half of the year begins
The Detroit Red Wings lost for the 1st time since Dec. 27 last night, but things aren't getting any easier for them when their remaining schedule is analyzed.
The Detroit Red Wings lost for the 1st time since December 27, as they were beaten 6-3 by the lowly San Jose Sharks last night at Little Caesars Arena.
It ended their season-high 7-game winning streak, which was the longest since January of 2012; had they won, it would have become the team's longest winning streak since 2008.
It also capped a lengthy homestead at Little Caesars Arena; the Red Wings now head out for a 4-game road trip that takes them through the divisional foes Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers.
They'll also play the Philadelphia Flyers and Dallas Stars.
But when the rest of their schedule is analyzed, it becomes clear how difficult it will be for them not only to maintain their newfound success under coach Todd McLellan, but continue to stay in the mix for a Wild Card postseason spot.
According to Talkathon, the Red Wings have the most difficult remaining schedule in the NHL based on the winning percentage of their opponents (.588).
The Red Wings have gone 2-8-2 in their last 12 games in Florida, but have fared better in Tampa Bay in recent years after losing 17 straight, winning 4 of their last 6 games there.
Meanwhile, the Red Wings have lost 11 straight games in Dallas, while also losing 20 of their last 22 games in Philadelphia.
While the Red Wings haven't enjoyed as much success as they'd like against those 4 respective opponents, coach McLellan is ready to write a new chapter in the team's history while keeping the past in the past.
don't know that history, so I'd like to not know it. We're going to keep finding more about the group. I thought for the first time we sagged just a little bit in (Tuesday's) game. It was almost like we were entitled to win. And when it wasn't going for us, just a little bit of a sag. Human nature, but something we got to fight through.
