Red Wings Fans Pledge For Defenseman to Be Traded After Overtime Loss to Wild

A costly gaffe by 1st year Detroit Red Wings defenseman Erik Gustafsson in overtime this afternoon at Little Caesars Arena opened the door for an opportunity by the Minnesota Wild that they wouldn't waste.

Gustafsson's attempted pass to teammate Ben Chiarot at the top of the faceoff circle was intercepted by Joel Eriksson-Ek, who sprung Marco Rossi fresh out of the penalty box. Rossi fanned on his shot on goalie Cam Talbot, but the puck still somehow slid over the line to secure the extra point up for grabs for Minnesota.

Red Wings fans were understandably angry at the gaffe from Gustafsson, barking demands for him to be scratched or traded in response and questioning why he was on the ice during overtime.

Gustafsson is playing in his 1st year with the Red Wings; he was given a 2-year contract by GM Steve Yzerman this past summer.

He's also played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Calgary Flames, Philadelphia Flyers, Montreal Canadiens, Washington Capitals, Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers.
