As if losing one goaltender to injury wasn't bad enough, the Red Wings are now down a pair of goaltenders; both Alex Lyon and Cam Talbot are unavailable for tonight's game against the divisional foe Toronto Maple Leafs (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
Talbot recently returned from an injury he suffered on December 1, making 32 saves in a 4-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers; his teammates left him out to dry, leaving him to face multiple breakaway attempts and odd-man rushes thanks to their defensive lapses and lackluster play.
However, he re-tweaked his injury in practice the following day. Meanwhile, Alex Lyon isn't quite ready to return after getting hurt in practice last month.
The Red Wings have announced that Ville Husso will make his 5th start in the last six games, while Jack Campbell has been called up from the AHL.
According to coach Derek Lalonde, the hope is that Talbot won't miss any extended time.
As far as Lyon is concerned, Lalonde indicated that the team is targeting a Wednesday return next week.
Despite Sebastian Cossa picking up his 1st NHL win on Monday, the Red Wings instead decided to call up Jack Campbell to back up Husso for tonight's game.
Campbell recently returned from a stint in the NHL Player Assistance Program; he also had his contract bought out by the Edmonton Oilers during the offseason before being signed to a 1-year deal by the Red Wings for depth.
