As the 2024-25 NHL season nears, the Detroit Red Wings are eager to end their seven-year playoff drought.

Key to this effort is 35-year-old Patrick Kane, who re-signed for one year at $4 million plus $2.5 million in incentives. Kane impressed last season with 20 goals and 27 assists in 50 games and delivered a memorable overtime win against his former team, the Chicago Blackhawks.

The goaltending situation is uncertain. Ville Husso, the youngest goalie at 29, is recovering from multiple lower-body injuries and aims to return to form. Meanwhile, Alex Lyon and Cam Talbot offer experience and stability, with Talbot coming off a solid season with the Kings. Jack Campbell is expected to play mainly in Grand Rapids on a one-year, two-way contract.

Defensively, the Red Wings added Erik Gustafsson and re-signed prospect Albert Johansson. Moritz Seider, a key blue-line player, will likely pair with Ben Chiarot or Jeff Petry, but the final defensive pairing remains unclear.

Lucas Raymond and Seider, who set career highs last season, will be crucial. Simon Edvinsson's integration, making his full-time NHL debut, will also be pivotal.
