While the Detroit Red Wings face another divisional foe in the Ottawa Senators tonight, they've announced a key update on one of their most important players.
Veteran Patrick Kane, who has missed the last five games with an upper-body injury, has been activated from Injured Reserve.
He's expected to play tonight with the rest of his teammates against the rival Ottawa Senators (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
The importance of Kane was evident to the Red Wings, who were forced to put grinding forward Tyler Motte on the second line in Kane's place for a short period.
But when healthy, Kane hasn't been producing at the rate of last year that was nearly a point per game.
With just 10 points (3G, 7A) in the games he's skated in, the Red Wings are going to need much more from him in terms of production.
Kane joined the Red Wings nearly one calendar year ago, and made his debut on December 7 against the San Jose Sharks, a wild 6-5 loss in overtime.
He scored his first goal in a Red Wings sweater the following game against the Senators at Little Caesars Arena:
If the Red Wings are to go on a run, they'll need Kane to be a part of it and for him to start putting up points in the same way he was last year.
