The NHL had better watch out, because Detroit Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond is starting to heat up.
Not only did the fourth-year forward score tonight to give the Red Wings the 1-0 led over the division foe Boston Bruins, but in doing so he also registered the 200th point of his career.
After a shot from defenseman Simon Edvinsson deflected off the leg of Boston's Charlie McAvoy, the puck landed right on the stick of Raymond, who beat goaltender Joonas Korpisalo from the left face-off circle:
He also joined some rather select company from his native Sweden, becoming the third youngest Swedish-born player to reach 200 points behind former Toronto Maple Leafs captain Mats Sundin and longtime Washington Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom.
Raymond's goal also made him the fourth-youngest player in Detroit Red Wings history to reach 200 career points.
While Red Wings fans had every right to be upset after they saw their team fall to 4th in the 2020 NHL Draft Lottery despite their NHL-worst record and missing the chance to draft Alexis Lafreniere 1st overall, they landed Raymond with the 4th pick.
And so far, it's worked out tremendously for the Red Wings, who secured him for the long-term with an 8-year contract in September, along with an 8-year deal for his teammate (and fellow 4th-year Red Wing) Moritz Seider.
Hats off to Lucas Raymond for his accomplishment tonight against the divisional foe Bruins, and here's to many more achievements!
