Multiple Detroit Red Wings players are unavailable right now thanks to various injuries, including Patrick Kane, Alex Lyon, and Cam Talbot.
Thanks to the uncertainty with defenseman Jeff Petry, the Red Wings have brought up a second player up from the Grand Rapids Griffins in as many days following Sebastian Cossa's call-up yesterday.
They've re-called defenseman William Lagesson from Griffins, and conversely placed Patrick Kane on Injured Reserve retroactive to November 23.
Lagesson's call up could be in the event that Petry is unable to play in tonight's game against the divisional foe Boston Bruins (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
Earlier in the week, Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde indicated Petry didn't practice due to needing a maintenance day, but didn't offer a clear diagnosis as to the nature of the injury or if he'd be able to play against Boston.
Lagesson also recently went viral for his stunning MMA-style chokehold on Adam Raska of the Iowa Wild:
The shocking infraction resulted in Lagesson being suspended for three games, which only apply to the AHL.
Before his suspension, Lagesson had five points (2G, 3A) in 13 games in Grand Rapids, his first year with the Red Wings organization.
