Veteran forward Patrick Kane has been unable to play for the Detroit Red Wings for the last four games thanks to an unspecified upper-body injury, and the team has announced his latest status ahead of tonight's divisional clash against the Boston Bruins (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
The Red Wings placed Kane on Injured Reserve retroactive to November 23.
However, the news isn't entirely negative.
A player on Injured Reserve means that he won't be available for at least the next four games; because Kane was placed retroactively from the date he first started missing games, he's eligible to return at any point now.
Yesterday, beat writer Helene St. James reported that while Kane was on the ice for Red Wings practice, he wasn't a full participant..
Kane has missed Detroit's games against the New York Islanders, Calgary Flames, New Jersey Devils, and Vancouver Canucks; the Red Wings went 2-1-1 during that span.
There's a possibility that Kane could suit up for Detroit on Thursday when their road swing continues with a game against the divisional foe Ottawa Senators; they return home to face the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday at Little Caesars Arena.
He's scored three goals with seven assists this year for the Red Wings, whom he agreed to re-sign with during the summer with a one-year contract.
