Goaltender Alex Lyon hasn't played since getting hurt in practice last week, and the latest update on his condition as the Detroit Red Wings begin a road trip isn't encouraging.

In a cruel twist of irony, the Detroit Red Wings are now down two goaltenders thanks to the injury bug and have since been forced into making other arrangements with their roster.

In the first place, Alex Lyon was hurt during practice last week, and hasn't played or practiced since then.

Additionally, Cam Talbot sustained a lower-body injury during Sunday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks; Ville Husso, who was called up from the AHL after Lyon's injury, replaced Talbot and will be starting tonight against the Bruins.

Per beat writer Helene St. James, coach Derek Lalonde indicated that Lyon isn't ready to return to the ice any time soon, while Talbot didn't make the trip with the rest of the team which includes a stop in Ottawa on Thursday before returning home on Saturday.

Cam Talbot (lower body) out at least for trip, per Lalonde this morning in Boston. Didn't rule him out for Saturday but said it would be a stretch. Alex Lyon probably out a bit longer.

The Red Wings also called up Sebastian Cossa; he'll be in uniform for the first time in regular season play, serving as backup to Husso.

Playing in his second year with the Red Wings, Lyon has gone 4-4 and posted a 2.75 GAA and a .911 SV%; he also has one shutout, a 29-save blanking of the New York Islanders on October 22 while his teammates managed just 10 shots for the entire game.

Are the current players on the Detroit Red Wings roster too injury prone?
