It's not about how you start, but how you finish!
Detroit Red Wings goaltender Sebastian Cossa was thrust into his first NHL action during tonight's game against the Buffalo Sabres in less than ideal circumstances.
But after an ominous start to his NHL career, he helped his team earn two huge points in the standings.
He not only picked up his 1st career NHL win, but also became the 1st goalie in League history to win their first game via the shootout in relief effort.
He replaced starter Ville Husso, who allowed three Sabres goals on just seven shots during the 1st period; Cossa began the second period.
While he allowed two quick goals, he was the last man standing. The Red Wings completed the comeback by scoring twice in the third period and winning the shootout for a 6-5 final score.
Congratulations on your debut NHL win, Sebastian!
Cossa was tapped on the shoulder by Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde during the intermission and informed that he would be replacing Husso.
He had been called up to the Red Wings after the lower-body injury suffered by Cam Talbot one week ago against the Vancouver Canucks, a 5-4 OT loss at Little Caesars Arena.
Cossa hadn't been given the opportunity to pick up his 1st start at the NHL level, but given the fact that he eventually settled down after allowing a pair of quick goals and earned his 1st win, Lalonde may give him the starter's reigns for their next game.
