The Detroit Red Wings are already playing without two top players on their roster thanks to injuries to Patrick Kane and Alex Lyon, and now another key name has been added to that list.
Goaltender Cam Talbot departed today's game against the visiting Vancouver Canucks immediately after Alex DeBrincat scored to tie the game at 2-2 at 6:38 of the 2nd period.
He's been replaced by backup Ville Husso.
There was no immediate word as to the exact nature of Talbot's issue, nor did he appear to suffer an injury as the result of a hard shot or a collision with another player.
The Red Wings have since announced that Talbot suffered a lower-body injury and is out for the rest of today's game.
Husso was recalled from the AHL by the Red Wings after Lyon was injured during a recent practice session.
The Red Wings have already announced that Lyon will be unavailable for their upcoming road trip, which begins on Tuesday against the division foe Boston Bruins.
Should Talbot be seriously hurt and also unavailable, the starting responsibilities will fall to Husso; the Red Wings may also have to look to the AHL for a backup, which could potentially mean the arrival of exciting goaltending prospect Sebastian Cossa.
The injury to Talbot is also especially discouraging considering that Husso missed the majority of last year with various injuries of his own.
Let's keep our fingers crossed that not only is Talbot's injury not serious, but that Husso can hold the fort down until he and Alex Lyon return.
