Detroit Red Wings prospect Red Savage has eyes on the future
Detroit Red Wings forward prospect Red Savage experienced significant growth and change during the 2023-24 season.
Selected 114th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft by the Detroit Red Wings, Red Savage transferred from Miami (Ohio) to Michigan State, competing in the Big Ten Conference.
The move to a more competitive conference benefited Red Savage, who feels he has become a more well-rounded player.
«Playing with elite players and having team support even when not at my best was invaluable,» Savage said at the Red Wings' 2024 Development Camp. «My game improved a lot throughout the year.»
Red Savage posted career highs in goals (10), assists (17), and points (27) over 38 games, helping the Spartans secure their first Big Ten title. Reflecting on his transfer, Red Savage noted:
«The process involved a lot of self-reflection and evaluating the best fit for my needs.»
Despite considering turning professional, Red Savage chose to return for his senior year at Michigan State to develop his skills further and earn his college degree.
«I want to be the best hockey player and person I can be,» he said. «I'm focusing on getting faster and stronger to prepare for the next level.»
