Following a poor 1st period of play against the Sabres, the Detroit Red Wings pulled starter Ville Husso from the net in favor of Sebastian Cossa.

After Ville Husso surrendered three goals on just seven shots against the Sabres, Detroit Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde made the decision to insert Sebastian Cossa into the game for the start of the 2nd period.

Despite allowing a pair of quick goals, Cossa settled in nicely and finished with 12 saves; he also made two key stops in the shootout as the Red Wings came back to win, 6-5.

Cossa earned his 1st NHL victory, and made hockey history by being the only goaltender to win their inaugural game in relief of the game's original starter via the shootout.

And as he was explaining his excitement over the accomplishment, he also revealed that it was Husso who was the first teammate to speak to him after the goalie switch was made.

Huss was awesome. Even the first intermission when he knew that I was going in, the first guy to come up to me, wish me luck and just play my game.

No decision has been made yet by Lalonde of who starts for the Red Wings tomorrow night in Philadelphia.

Ville Husso had a rough 20 minutes against the Sabres and was pulled

Last night's game against the Buffalo Sabres could not have gone worse in the opening 20 minutes for goaltender Ville Husso, who surrendered the very first shot of the game that he faced:

After Tage Thompson scored on a 2-on-1 rush that almost no goaltender would have a chance on, he surrendered a soft goal from Jason Zucker on a soft wrist shot from the top of the left face-off circle that somehow trickled through his pads:

Up until last night, Husso had played well since being called up from the AHL for a 2nd time this year, but had yet to pick up a win mostly due to getting no offensive support.
