The Red Wings have lost defenseman Jeff Petry to injury, and head coach Todd McLellan has provided the latest update on his condition.

While the Detroit Red Wings have now won 4 consecutive games under new head coach Todd McLellan, one player they've not had the last game and a half is veteran defenseman Jeff Petry.

Petry suffered a lower-body injury in last week's 5-4 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena, and wasn't able to play in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets.

The Red Wings are back on home ice tonight against the divisional foe Ottawa Senators at Little Caesars Arena (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket), and Petry will not be playing.

According to head coach Todd McLellan following today's morning skate,

He's not going to play tonight, we have a day off tomorrow. The next opportunity for him to skate is on Thursday and I would say the feedback I'm getting on that is it's doubtful that he's going to skate on that day, so you can see where this is going.

Petry is skating in his 2nd year with the Red Wings after being acquired in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

While he's provided veteran leadership on the blue line, he's often drawn the wrath of Red Wings fans for not being the defenseman that he once was during his years as one of the best on the back end for the Edmonton Oilers.

So far this year, he has 6 points (1G, 5A) but a -7 rating while averaging 19:11 of ice time.

He's had a pair of goals that were originally credited to him later credited to other teammates.
