With the salary cap for the 2024-25 season set at $88 million and a salary floor of $65 million, the Detroit Red Wings have approximately $17.6 million in cap space. Several roster adjustments are needed to ensure the "Yzerplan" leads to a playoff berth.

The Red Wings have re-signed center Joe Veleno, whose offensive contributions have steadily improved. They also signed Patrick Kane, who had a strong season post-hip surgery, netting 20 goals and 27 assists in 50 games. Kane's chemistry with Alex DeBrincat, who scored 27 goals and 40 assists last season, should bolster the team's offensive capabilities.
However, DeBrincat's late-season scoring drought highlighted the need for consistent high-end scoring.
Jonatan Berggren, part of the Red Wings' top-ranked prospect system, is expected to transition to the NHL, adding much-needed scoring depth. The Red Wings have also signed Vladimir Tarasenko to a two-year contract. Although his scoring has declined, Tarasenko's experience and recent Stanley Cup win with the Florida Panthers could prove valuable.
Key to the Red Wings' future are young cornerstones Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond, who have been given qualifying offers. Their continued development, alongside Simon Edvinsson's likely full-time role, will be crucial for the team's defensive stability.
Starting September 25th, training camp will be pivotal for finalizing the roster and ensuring the Red Wings are poised to make a playoff push. The team must solidify its lines and provide depth in scoring and defense to meet the high expectations set for this season.
