Former Detroit Red Wing signs contract with the New York Islanders
The New York Islanders have re-signed restricted free-agent defenseman Dennis Cholowski to a one-year, two-way contract worth $300K next season, according to PuckPedia.
The 26-year-old, drafted 20th overall in 2016, will earn $775K at the NHL level and $250K in the AHL.
Dennis Cholowski has not played an NHL game since January 19, 2023. Last season, he spent entirely in the AHL with Bridgeport, where he recorded seven goals and 24 assists in 68 games. Entering his seventh professional season, Cholowski remains a project, struggling to establish himself as an NHL regular. Known for his terrific skating and offensive involvement, his defensive play needs improvement, and he must play a more physical game to become an everyday NHLer.
Despite his mobility, he hasn't leveraged it to enhance his defensive performance. Likely starting next season in Bridgeport, Cholowski could be called up if injuries arise, positioned as the Islanders' eighth defenseman on the depth chart.
