The Detroit Red Wings are back at it tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
They'll be looking to break out of a funk that's seen them lose 2-straight games by a combined 9-2 score.
And ahead of tonight's game, they've made a key roster move.
They've re-called forward Elmer Soderblom from the Grand Rapids Griffins, and he'll be getting his 1st NHL action since 2022-23:
He most recently played for the Red Wings in 2022-23, appearing in 21 games and scoring 8 points (5G, 3A). Since then, he's been playing in the American Hockey League.
Soderblom, who scored the 1st goal of the year for the Red Wings in their home opener in 2022 against the Montreal Canadiens, had 8 points (5G, 3A) in 21 games before being sent back to the Griffins.
He's remained in the AHL since then, and has 17 points (5G, 12A) in 38 games this year. But as he's picked up his game, the points have started flowing more freely.
At 6'8, Soderblom is the tallest player in Red Wings history. And considering that the Flyers are known for their physical brand of hockey, Detroit has decided to insert the towering forward into their lineup.
Meanwhile, forward Tyler Motte remains unavailable due to injury; he crashed face-first into the boards earlier in the month in Detroit's loss against the San Jose Sharks at Little Caesars Arena.
