The Edmonton Oilers may as well change their franchise identity to "sour grapes" after their official response to Connor McDavid's well-deserved 3-game suspension.

The NHL Department of Player Safety suspended Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid after he delivered a vicious cross check to the face of Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland on Saturday.

But the Oilers organization embarrassed itself as a whole with an official reaction posted on X in which they decry the suspension and also promise to "support him through this process", as if he just underwent a personal ordeal.

The Oilers organization is disappointed and we share in our fans' frustration over the three-game suspension of our captain Connor McDavid. We support him through this process and the organization and our fans look forward to having him back in the lineup vs. Seattle next week.

Perhaps the Oilers should tell their captain that if he doesn't want to be suspended for multiple games, maybe he should refrain from brutal cross checks to the faces of opponents in the future.

And social media users by and large felt the same way with their responses to the post by Edmonton.

Hahahahahahahhaa. Wow Embarrassing much. Good grief. Wouldn't be surprised if they held a moment of silence before next puck drop.

Mcdavid gets treated like a regular player in that situation and now they're all crying about it.

The crying is pathetic. We get no Oiler fan thinks mcjesus should be allowed to be touched but guess what, it's a rough sport.

Biggest bunch of whiny bitches in any professional sport. He CROSS CHECKED A GUY IN THE FACE. This is why this soft, whiny team will never win shit. Because this guy is a supremely talented goal suck who thinks the league should cater to him.

Cry harder, Oilers.

Was Connor McDavid's 3-game suspension too long, too short, or just right?
