Todd McLellan reveals true opinion of Elmer Soderblom
Elmer Soderblom is making his NHL debut for this year, and it will be his 1st action with the Red Wings since 2022-23.
The Detroit Red Wings have made a notable change in their roster for tonight's game against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
Towering 6'8 forward Elmer Soderblom is on his way up from the Grand Rapids Griffins, and he'll be in the lineup for what will be his 1st NHL action since 2022-23.
Soderblom explained that he was excited to get the call from GM Steve Yzerman, and now coach Todd McLellan has voiced what he knows about him.
My history of knowing Elmer was three years ago when we (Los Angeles Kings) came to Detroit early in the season and he was in the lineup. I remember his size. His ability to control and protect pucks with that size was pretty impressive.
He had to go down and work on his game, but I've been told he's been playing very well lately the last two or three weeks and starting to come into his own. We're hoping he can do that here in a different league, but he's experienced it before. We're hoping he provides a little injection of life into the group and that will come out as the game goes on.
Soderblom earned his spot in the lineup thanks to his strong play with the Griffin, and McLellan is looking forward to seeing what he can do - especially with his large frame.
As much as we talk about the belief system, the reward system is important in an organization. He's earned the right to come up here and we're excited about seeing him play.
We needed to shake some things up and we wanted to see Elmer and see what he can do with his size.
