Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin is one of a pair of Red Wings players selected to participate in the 4 Nations Faceoff, though his roster spot wasn't set in stone.

The 4 Nations Faceoff began with a bang last night in Montreal, as Canada edged Sweden 4-3 in overtime.
Tonight, the Americans take on Finland in what will be the second game played at Bell Centre.
Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin, who was one of a pair of Red Wings players selected to participate along with Lucas Raymond, will be in the lineup and playing on the 4th line against Finland.
Per The Athlertic's Stephen Whyno, the Americans are skating with the following combinations during this morning's skate:
M.Tkachuk-Eichel-Connor
Hughes-Matthews-Guentzel
B.Tkachuk-Miller-Boldy
Kreider/Larkin-Trocheck-Nelson
Werenski-McAvoy
Slavin-Fox
Sanderson/Hanifin/Faber
During their recent practice sessions, Larkin was rotating on and off the 4th line with New York Rangers veteran Chris Kreider, who was named the odd-man out for tonight's game.

American head coach Mike Sullivan explained why Chris Kreider was the healthy scratch

Despite being the elder statesman on the Rangers with valuable experience, American head coach Mike Sullivan instead elected to keep him out of the lineup for their 4 Nations Faceoff opener.
He's a high-character person, first and foremost. I think Kreidz is a guy we could plug into any line, and he's going to bring key attributes-his size, his skating ability, and his north-south game. He has the ability to score goals and can play net front on the power play.

He can also contribute to the penalty kill. We've played against him a lot, especially being in the same division, so I'm very familiar with his game. But above all, he's just a great person. He's a really good teammate, and his versatility is one of the reasons he's on this roster.

When you look at the types of players we have in supporting roles, versatility is a crucial element-the ability to play multiple positions or take on different responsibilities. And I think he checks a lot of boxes in that regard.
