Former Detroit Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi could find himself in considerable trouble with the National Hockey League thanks to his actions during yesterday's game against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome.
Now with the Chicago Blackhawks, Bertuzzi delivered a nasty chop to the legs of Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau during a scrum at the side of the net:
Bertuzzi had just gotten Calgary's Martin Pospisil into a headlock before Huberdeau arrived to knock Bertuzzi's helmet off; he then responded with the slash to the back of Huberdeau's legs.
The former Red Wings forward also scored two goals during the game, which included banging in a pass from 2023 No. 1 overall pick Connor Bedard:
Playing with Bedard has its benefits, as Bertuzzi said.
"Just kind of try to get open and find soft areas," Bertuzzi said. "His head's always up. If he thinks he's open he'll find you."
For his actions, Bertuzzi was ultimately assessed 14 penalty minutes: a two-minute minor for roughing on Pospisil, a two-minute slashing penalty on Huberdeau, and a ten-minute misconduct.
Another former Red Wings player, goaltender Petr Mrazek, made his return to the Chicago lineup for the first time since suffering an injury on December 7.
Bertuzzi is playing in his 1st year with the Blackhawks after agreeing to a 4-year contract with the former Original 6 and divisional foe of the Red Wings.
It also marks his 4th Original 6 club that he's played for, as he's also suited up with the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs.
