While former Blackhawks forward Jeremy Roenick has one take on an incident at the Winter Classic, former Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios sees it a different way.

The 2025 NHL Winter Classic officially went into the books as a 6-2 win by the St. Louis Blues over the Chicago Blackhawks, who continue to struggle as one of the lowest-ranked teams in the League.

While speaking on his Snipes and Stripes Podcast, former Blackhawks forward Jeremy Roenick was put off by Chicago's Connor Bedard for allegedly not greeting him before the game, which took place at Wrigley Field.

All the players came up to me, [Chelios], and [Savard], except one. That was Connor Bedard.

If we don't have that respect to go up and fist bump, to say congratulations, how can you do it with your own teammates? I'm not ripping on him in terms of his personality or anything like that.

If he's going to be the captain of this team, there is a lot of things that he has to think about in terms of being that leader, being that captain, and unfortunately he dropped the ball.

Former Blackhawks captain Chris Chelios, who was also there, saw things differently and said he believes the slight wasn't anything personal or intentional, but rather a difference in their respective generations.

Jeremy's heart is in the right place, there's no question about that. He's so excited to be back with the Blackhawks and involved in the Hawks' Hall of Fame induction. I think, he might be stuck in the '90s, somewhat like I am, and it's just a generational thing. It's nothing to do with Connor or any of the other younger players."

"When I was raised, we were taught to shake people's hands and look you in the eyes - that's not the way it is (now).

Chris Chelios is one of the great American defensemen in NHL history

Chris Chelios is regarded as one of the best American-born defensemen ever to play in the National Hockey League, and he played key roles in the success of three different Original 6 clubs.

Not only did he win the Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens in 1986, but he also captained the Chicago Blackhawks for several years before getting traded to the rival Detroit Red Wings in 1999.

He would go on to play another decade in the Motor City, winning the Stanley Cup twice more.

Last year, he was honored by the Blackhawks by having his sweater No. 7 (which was worn for years by Brent Seabrook) raised to the United Center rafters. The game ironically took place when Patrick Kane returned as a member of the opposition for the 1st time, and scored the game-winner in overtime as a bonus.
