Coach Todd McLellan has a warning for the Red Wings despite 6-game winning streak
Detroit Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan continues to hold his team accountable since taking over behind the bench, and it's showing in the team's recent 6-game winning streak - but there's a warning he has for his club.
The Detroit Red Wings continue to surge, having won 6-straight games under new head coach Todd McLellan, who has brought a new aura of competition and tenacity to the club that was tied for last place in the Eastern Conference upon his hiring on December 26.
And the difference between McLellan, who recently picked up his 600th victory as a head coach, and Detroit's previous pair of bench bosses in Derek Lalonde and Jeff Blashill (both of whom were rookie head coaches) couldn't be more clear.
But despite their newfound success, McLellan has a warning for the Red Wings - don't get complacent.
We're one game over .500, have a negative goal differential of minus-16 goals. If that is the map to complacency, shame on us. We've worked to feel good. Do we want to give that back? I don't know the group well enough to say we have it under control.
We're not going to win the next 41 games. That's very unrealistic. If a loss does come, and it's an honest loss, we have to move on from it. But if it's a complacency loss or give yourself permission to be crappy on a certain day, and the group can do that too, we'll deal with it.
The Red Wings have won 6-straight games under McLellan
Detroit's most recent victory was a 5-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks last night at Little Caesars Arena.
Former Blackhawks icon Patrick Kane posted three assists, while another former Blackhawk in Alex DeBrincat had a goal with an assist.
And we can't forget Erik Gustafsson (another former Blackhawk), who had a highlight-reel worthy assist on Andrew Copp's 3rd period goal.
