Former Red Wings goalie Magnus Hellberg joins Dallas Stars: Is this the end?
Magnus Hellberg, the Swedish netminder, is on the move again. After stints with seven different NHL teams over the past seven seasons, Hellberg has now signed with the Dallas Stars as an unrestricted free agent.
This marks his eighth NHL club, following stops with the Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins, Ottawa Senators, Seattle Kraken, Florida Panthers, Nashville Predators, and New York Rangers. Despite the frequent relocations, Hellberg has only appeared in 26 NHL games, 18 of which were with Detroit, including one game in the 2021-22 season and 17 more in 2022-23.
Hellberg's signing with Dallas brings up questions about his future in the league. With so few games under his belt and now joining yet another team, one wonders if this will be his final NHL stop. Meanwhile, other former Red Wings like Dominik Kubalik, Jakub Vrana, and Filip Zadina are also navigating uncertain futures, with Kubalik linked to Toronto, Vrana aiming to stay in North America, and Zadina potentially heading back to Czechia.
