The basement-dwelling Chicago Blackhawks could be soon attempting to swing a trade with the Red Wings, as they had scouts in attendance during last night's game against the Flyers in Philadelphia.

It's not unusual for there to be multiple NHL scouts from various clubs in attendance at any given time at a game.

But could the Chicago Blackhawks be soon attempting to swing a trade with their former divisional foe Detroit Red Wings?

Via reports on X, there were scouts from the Blackhawks in attendance during last night's Red Wings game against the Philadelphia Flyers, a 2-1 overtime win by the host Flyers.

Additionally, scouts from the New Jersey Devils, Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins, and Vegas Golden Knights were also present at Wells Fargo Center.

The Trade Deadline for this year is March 7. Right now, the Blackhawks remain in 32nd place among all NHL clubs, and could decide to make major changes.

The Red Wings have multiple pending free agents

The Detroit Red Wings have multiple expiring contracts on their roster, not the last of which is former Blackhawks forward and future Hall of Famer Patrick Kane.

Among the other players who are on expiring contracts include Ville Husso, Jeff Petry, Christian Fischer, and Tyler Motte; they're all eligible to become unrestricted free agents when this year comes to a close.

Additionally, Jonatan Berggren, Elmer Soderblom and Albert Johansson can become restricted free agents.

Right now, the Red Wings have approximately $4.7 million of cap space to utilize toward their plans for this year.
