There was no holiday cheer at Little Caesars Arena on Monday night, as the Detroit Red Wings lost for the third straight game in regulation.
Their latest loss was a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the St. Louis Blues, whom they defeated in both contests last year.
The Red Wings appeared completely listless for most of the game, failing to register double digits in shots until the 3rd period.
And as the seconds ticked away at Little Caesars Arena, the frustrated fans who hadn't already made an early jump on the traffic were sure to let the Red Wings know exactly what they thought with a loud chorus of booing.
Blues forward Dylan Holloway registered his 1st career hat trick; the Blues also got a goal from Alexandre Texier.
Jordan Binnington made 19 saves for his second shutout of the year, and the 17th of his NHL career.
Meanwhile, the Red Wings were heavily shorthanded on the blue line, playing without the injured Simon Edvinsson and Ben Chiarot; Edvinsson missed his 3rd straight game, while Chiarot hasn't played since the second period of Saturday night's loss to the Montreal Canadiens.
The Red Wings now head into the Christmas break facing several difficult questions about the trajectory of their season.
As it currently stands, they're in second-to-last place in the Atlantic Division, ahead of only the Buffalo Sabres, who are in the midst of a 14-game losing streak.
