Last year, the Detroit Red Wings came within one point of qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 1st time since 2016.
But ahead of tonight's game at Little Caesars Arena against the St. Louis Blues (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket), the Red Wings are now behind the Montreal Canadiens in the standings after losing their home-and-home series; they're ahead of only the hapless Buffalo Sabres in the Eastern Conference.
But while there are some fans who are perfectly content with not having expectations and this year being another throwaway, defenseman Moritz Seider is pushing back.
Seider clearly isn't on board with the notion that some fans have that there should be no expectations of the postseason until 2026 or beyond.
Despite back-to-back victories over the Montreal Canadiens in the final pair of games, the Red Wings still failed to qualify thanks to a tie-breaker with the Washington Capitals.
Naturally, the expectations for this year were higher given the fact that not only did Detroit come so close to breaking their season futility streak but that they were entering the 6th year of Steve Yzerman's tenure.
Those expectations aren't being met, and unless something major changes (think 2019 St. Louis Blues), there will be intensified scrutiny on just where the famed «Yzerplan» is going.
