After the Detroit Red Wings got goaltender Cam Talbot back between the pipes, they decided to send Ville Husso back down to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
And for Husso, his 1st game back between the pipes was a rude introduction back to the AHL for him. He allowed all six goals as part of a 6-1 loss to the Milwaukee Admirals.
For Husso, it was his worst outing in the AHL; he had previously gone undefeated in four games with an impressive 1.58 GAA.
Griffins coach Dan Watson, clearly upset and embarrassed by the blowout loss, wanted to make it clear that isn't indicative of who they are as a team.
Husso finished with 17 saves in what was his 1st loss at the AHL level this year.
The Finnish net minder is playing in the final year of the contract that Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman signed him to in 2022 after being acquired via trade with the St. Louis Blues.
Whether or not Husso is re-signed by Yzerman and the Red Wings remains to be seen. Young Sebastian Cossa is waiting in the wings with the Griffins, and could earn a promotion to the NHL next year.
In addition to Husso, fellow Red Wings goalie Alex Lyon is also in the final year of his respective contract.
The bottom line? The goaltending situation for the Red Wings could look very different next year depending on what Yzerman decides to do.
