Henrik Zetterberg's latest comments will likely disappoint fans of the Detroit Red Wings who wanted to see him take an official role with the team.
Several iconic former Detroit Red Wings players have taken an official management role with the team, led by current general manager Steve Yzerman.
Additionally, former players like Nicklas Lidstrom, Kris Draper, Kirk Maltby, Dan Cleary, and Niklas Kronwall all work with the club in an official capacity.
But for fans who were hoping that former captain Henrik Zetterberg would join them, you'll be disappointed.
In 2023, Zetterberg confirmed that he had no interest in working in any official capacity, instead choosing simply to help with his son Love's hockey practices.
I'm just there to move pucks. There is no other desire to work with hockey in the future.
As Zetterberg explained to the Swedish website Expressen more recently, he keeps busy and also doesn't want to spoil the results of games that Love pays attention to.
We'll try to somehow not look at the result and somehow be able to watch the games after school when he gets home. We'll see if we can manage not to see any result.
Henrik Zetterberg was named Nicklas Lidstrom's official successor as captain in 2013
Zetterberg seemed like the natural choice to succeed Nicklas Lidstrom as team captain upon the latter's retirement after 2011-12.
He had been groomed for the role from an early age, even having his locker stall at Joe Louis Arena during his rookie year right next to Yzerman's so that he could learn from the best.
