When the Detroit Red Wings ceased to be a playoff team over half a decade ago, their pipeline was rough, to say the least, but here are their ten best prospects right now.

Biggest Strengths:
A year ago, high-end defensive depth was a strength, which hasn't changed. The Swedish powerhouse trio of Edvinsson, Sandin-Pellikka, and William Wallinder is even more promising, complemented by Shai Buium turning pro and the selection of John Whipple. This depth surrounds Moritz Seider and will be crucial in the team's eventual resurgence. Additionally, having two starter-calibre goaltenders in Cossa and Augustine is a significant advantage.

Biggest Weakness:
The Red Wings lack a true impact forwarda real playdriver. While Kasper, Brandsegg-Nygård, and Nate Danielson are all top-six candidates, they aren't projected to be game-changers. Despite having one of the best pipelines in hockey, they haven't had a game-changing forward prospect since Lucas Raymond.

Here's the top ten prospects list as of now :

Simon Edvinsson, LHD, 21
Drafted sixth overall in 2021, Edvinsson is poised for full-time duty. He brings size, skill, and a well-rounded game, making him a future star on the Red Wings.

Axel Sandin-Pellikka, RHD, 19
Drafted 17th overall in 2023, Sandin-Pellikka had an impressive year, winning the SHL championship and earning the Salming Trophy. His slick maneuvering with the puck and excellent skating make him a standout.

Michael Brandsegg-Nygård, RW, 18
Drafted 15th overall in 2024, Brandsegg-Nygård is a solid two-way player with a high-paced game and one of the best shot releases in his draft class.

Marco Kasper, C, 20
Drafted eighth overall in 2022, Kasper had a solid season in the AHL. He's an outstanding skater who likes to play physically and can fit anywhere in the lineup.

Nate Danielson, C, 19
Drafted ninth overall in 2023, Danielson had an exciting campaign and played some of his best hockey in the playoffs. He's versatile and a leader, making him a valuable prospect.

Sebastian Cossa, G, 21
Drafted 15th overall in 2021, Cossa had a great season with Grand Rapids and is set to challenge for the AHL's top goaltender award. He's a future No. 1 NHL goaltender.

Trey Augustine, G, 19
Drafted 41st overall in 2023, Augustine had an excellent year, winning gold at the World Junior and the Big Ten championship. Despite not having Cossa's size, he has a winning pedigree and great skills.

Carter Mazur, LW, 22
Drafted 70th overall in 2021, Mazur had a solid AHL rookie season. He's an energetic player with a great shot, capable of playing a bottom-six role in the NHL.

William Wallinder, LHD, 21
Drafted 32nd overall in 2020, Wallinder played well in the second half of the season. He's smart and steady, with offensive potential.

Max Plante, LW, 18
Drafted 47th overall in 2024, Plante is a talented playmaker with excellent hand-eye coordination. He can potentially be a solid third-liner and playmaker in the NHL.

The Red Wings' future looks bright, but these prospects must develop and produce at the NHL level. With Yzerman's leadership, the team is on the right path to becoming playoff-bound again.
