Steve Yzerman has given the Detroit Red Wings quite an offseason makeover, making changes at every position. After chasing a playoff spot to the last game, it was clear that changes were necessary.

Forwards: Yzerman retained Patrick Kane and signed Vladimir Tarasenko to boost the offense. He let David Perron walk and traded Robby Fabbri to make room under the salary cap. Key additions include Tyler Motte and Christian Fischer for depth. Prospects Carter Mazur, Marco Kasper, and Nate Danielson will also push for roster spots.

Defense: With the departure of Jake Walman and Shayne Gostisbehere, Yzerman brought in Erik Gustafsson to manage the blue line alongside veterans like Jeff Petry and Justin Holl. Simon Edvinsson is expected to play a bigger role this season.

Goaltending: The Wings addressed their goaltending issues by signing Cam Talbot and Jack Campbell, and acquiring Gage Alexander. Talbot provides insurance for Ville Husso, who struggled with injuries last season. Campbell is expected to mentor top prospect Sebastian Cossa in Grand Rapids, aiming to create a solid tandem that could push for NHL starts.

Yzerman's strategic moves aim to balance the roster, providing depth, experience, and potential across all positions, setting the Red Wings up for a competitive 2024-25 season.
