This morning, Steve Yzerman spoke with the media after the signings of Jonatan Berggren and Lucas Raymond yesterday. He answered numerous questions despite the Detroit Red Wings having concluded their prospect tournament in Traverse City.

Steve Yzerman addressed several key topics during his media session this morning. When asked about extending Lucas Raymond, Steve Yzerman expressed confidence in Raymond's development. He noted that Lucas Raymond made significant progress from his second to third year and anticipates further growth as Lucas Raymond approaches his prime.
Regarding Carter Mazur and Marco Kasper, Steve Yzerman praised their commitment and drive. He highlighted Mazur's physical improvements and both players' strong hockey intelligence. Steve Yzerman also discussed Albert Johansson and Nate Danielson. Johansson is fighting for an NHL spot, showing strong puck skills and a good sense of the game, but he faces stiff competition. Yzerman is hopeful Johansson can secure a roster spot. On Danielson, Yzerman mentioned his excellent condition, two-way play, and offensive potential. He expects Danielson to contribute offensively and is open to placing him in either the NHL or AHL to gain valuable minutes.
Steve Yzerman addressed the anticipation around Moritz Seider's contract extension, stating that negotiations are ongoing. He remains hopeful that a deal will be reached soon, noting that the team has $8.75 million in cap space.
When discussing the season ahead, Steve Yzerman emphasized the importance of progress-both from the team and individual players. He highlighted the need for improvements in defense and special teams and noted the challenge of replacing the scoring from Robby Fabbri, Daniel Sprong, and David Perron. He expects Jonatan Berggren and Vladimir Tarasenko, along with a full season from Patrick Kane, to help fill the gap.
On the topic of carrying three goalies, Steve Yzerman mentioned evaluating Ville Husso's health during the preseason and adjusting the lineup as needed. He anticipates a setup of 12 forwards, eight defensemen, and three goalies but remains flexible with potential lineups.
Finally, Steve Yzerman provided updates on injuries: Ondrej Becher has a sprained ankle, and Shai Buium is day-to-day after a shot-blocking injury. Despite these issues, the team is in good health overall.
As the Detroit Red Wings aim to make the playoffs for the first time since 2015-16, the focus is on whether their young talent can take significant steps forward and contribute to a successful season, potentially signaling the end of their rebuild.
