Large handfuls of fans in attendance at Canadian Tire Centre and later the Scotiabank Saddledome disrespectfully booed during the singing of the American anthem.

There were some uncomfortable moments before a pair of games on the Canadian side of the border last night.

During the singing of "The Star Spangled Banner" before both the Ottawa Senators hosting the Minnesota Wild and the Calgary Flames hosting the Detroit Red Wings, there was loud and noticeable booing from fans.

Bruce Garrioch, in Ottawa to cover the Senators, posted the following video of the incident prior to the Senators and Wild matchup:

Later, booing was heard in Calgary prior to the Flames hosting the Red Wings:

The booing came on the heels of tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump in response to fentanyl trafficking across the border. Trudeau has since announced retaliatory tariffs against the US; both moves have drawn varied responses across social media.

We'll see if sportsmanship returns to these particular Canadian fans soon.
