Powerful statement from Detroit Red Wings prospect Simon Edvinsson and he is ready for the 2024-25 NHL season
Simon Edvinsson, the 21-year-old defenseman for the Detroit Red Wings, is heading into the 2023-24 season with renewed confidence and motivation.
After a season where the team narrowly missed the playoffs, Edvinsson is focused on preparing for the upcoming campaign. He split last season between the Red Wings and the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins, tallying two points in 16 games with Detroit and 30 points in 54 games with Grand Rapids.
Reflecting on his experiences, Edvinsson understands the importance of every point in securing a playoff spot. Head coach Derek Lalonde envisions Edvinsson taking on more responsibility this season, potentially moving into a top-four defensive role. Lalonde highlighted Edvinsson's natural talent, emphasizing that consistency will be key.
This season, Edvinsson is paired again with veteran Jeff Petry in training camp, which Lalonde believes complements both players' styles. At 6 feet 6 inches and 209 pounds, Edvinsson aims to maintain a clean, effective game while contributing to the team's success.
«A lot happened for me during the last two months there,» Edvinsson said about last season. «It was a great experience. I know how hard it is to grab a playoff spot and what it is needed from the whole team, and me personally, to really grab those extra points at the end.»
With an eye on staying healthy and professional on and off the ice, Edvinsson's primary goal is team-oriented. He stated,
«I want to stay healthy... Reaching the playoffs would be it, and that's a pretty good goal to have, I think.»
