The club signed free agent Tyler Motte, a former Michigan Wolverine, and promoted Ohio State University graduate Aaron Kahn within their front office.
Aaron Kahn, previously the hockey operations director, was named assistant general manager. He shared the news on LinkedIn, stating:
With this promotion, the Red Wings now have three assistant GMs under Steve Yzerman. Shawn Horcoff will continue overseeing the Red Wings' farm system as GM of the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins, while Kris Draper remains the director of amateur scouting, managing the club's scouting staff and NHL entry draft preparations.
Kahn's Role and Background
Aaron Kahn will handle the business side of Red Wings hockey operations, including contracts and salary cap issues. A Berkeley, California native, Kahn played youth hockey as a goalie for the San Jose Jr. Sharks and walked on at Ohio State, playing club hockey with the Buckeyes. He graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Sport Industry and Business, with a pre-law focus.
After graduation, Kahn served as a volunteer assistant coach at Bowling Green, working with goaltenders and as a video coach. He earned his law degree from UCLA and worked as a Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati corporate attorney in Los Angeles.
Kahn's NHL career began as a media relations intern with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2015. He later worked with the Washington Capitals as a salary cap and legal affairs assistant from 2019-21 before joining the Red Wings as director of hockey operations in 2021.
