Three prospects have the best chance of making the Detroit Red Wings roster out of training camp: Carter Mazur, Nate Danielson, and Marco Kasper. Each has shown strong potential to earn a spot for the 2024-25 season.

But who will the team decide deserves it most?
Carter Mazur
Drafted 70th overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Mazur has impressed since his time at the University of Denver. Known for his defensive skills, he was nearly a point-per-game player. Mazur signed his entry-level contract before the 2022-23 season, recording six points in six games with the Grand Rapids Griffins. Last season, he notched 37 points in 60 games and added 8 points in 9 playoff games. Mazur's defensive prowess and physical play could be a massive asset for the Red Wings.
Marco Kasper
Drafted eighth overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, Kasper has played professionally in the SHL and AHL. In his first SHL season, he tallied 23 points in 52 games. Last season with the Griffins, he posted 35 points in the regular season and 7 points in 9 playoff games. Known for his gritty two-way play and playmaking ability, Kasper has two seasons of pro experience and a brief NHL stint, making him a strong contender.
Nate Danielson
Drafted ninth overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Danielson was initially seen as a high-floor, "safe" pick. However, he has shown dynamic playmaking and goal-scoring abilities. As captain of the Brandon Wheat Kings, he recorded 78 points in 68 games. After being traded to the Portland Winterhawks, he added 67 points in 54 regular season games and 24 points in 18 playoff games. Danielson impressed during training camp and preseason, demonstrating he can compete at the pro level.
The Red Wings must carefully evaluate these prospects to determine who deserves a spot on the opening night roster. Mazur's defensive skills, Kasper's pro experience and playmaking, and Danielson's dynamic offense make compelling cases.
